Choose the kind of holiday first
Do you picture an island stay, a ship journey with shore visits, a family break or a trip built around diving? Start with that answer. It will shape the transport, accommodation and number of days more than a long list of islands will.
Find your island
- Agatti: the gateway island, with reef life close to shore and the simplest arrival.
- Thinnakara: a quiet, uninhabited neighbour to Bangaram, usually visited as a day excursion.
- Bangaram: a near-private lagoon setting for a slower, more secluded stay.
- Minicoy: discuss culture, the lagoon and a distinctive island setting.
- Kalpeni: ask about lagoon activities and the difference between a shore visit and a stay.
- Kadmat: consider a beach stay with optional, confirmed reef activities.
Hotels, resorts and island stays
Ask for the actual property and room category, current photographs, meals, air-conditioning and arrival transfer. “Island stay” does not guarantee a particular resort standard. Let us know your priorities and any mobility or dietary needs before confirmation.
Permits and transport belong together
Your chosen island, dates, accommodation and travel arrangements need to form one coherent plan. Read the entry permit guide and the route guide before booking separate components.
Spend time, not just travel time
Island hopping sounds appealing, but each additional stop introduces another transfer and availability check. For a first trip, we often suggest comparing a relaxed single-island stay with the logistics of a multi-stop plan.
Pack and visit thoughtfully
Bring practical clothing, sun protection, comfortable footwear and your approved travel documents. Ask before photographing residents, respect community spaces, keep litter with you and follow local activity guidance. Leave living reefs and wildlife undisturbed.
For family travel, share children’s ages and discuss the practicalities of boarding boats and moving luggage. An attractive photograph cannot answer those questions.
